Job Description

The Dean of Students is a 10 month position and is included in the Newark Teachers' Association CBA as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA).

Starting Salary: $49,275 Base & commensurate with Experience. Additional Salary Credit available for Master's Degree and Graduate Credits. 

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The Dean of Students will work closely with the principal, grade and department level teams, instructional and behavioral coaches, school personnel and students to build and maintain a positive, safe school climate. The Dean of Students will demonstrate and implement successful student behavior management strategies. The Dean of Students will support the principal of the school to ensure that students receive the best possible education and services with the resources available, and the school is a positive, safe, healthy, and productive place to learn.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Support teachers in classroom setting with behavior management strategies  

• Build positive relationships with students   

• Communicate with parents regarding disciplinary issues  

• Respond to students in crisis  

• Support the MTSS process by assisting with data collection   

• Communicate with administrators and BHT  

• Other duties as assigned

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills to collaborate effectively with staff, families, community members, and other stakeholders.

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

• New York State Teacher Certification(s) 

• Completed a minimum of five years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience, preferably at the elementary level. 

• Holds a master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
